Friends and Neighbors:
It is with great regret that I write to inform you that we are ending our campaign for Alderman of the 48th Ward. Although we had given serious consideration to mounting a write-in campaign, the additional toll that this would have taken on myself and my family led me to the conclusion that we should stop now. (As many of you know, we will be adding a new member to the family in May.)

You can take our voice, but you cannot defeat our spirit!
I want to thank all of you who have helped with the campaign either through your donation of money or time, or both. This campaign was about you and your desire to see a democratic process brought to our community.
I had hoped to run a campaign of ideas. I believe our public schools can be great centers of learning for all children in Chicago and had looked forward to debating this important issue in City Council and planning for education here in our own community.
I believe that we can have a thriving community while retaining affordable housing for seniors and low-income people. And I believe that small business should be nurtured and supported, not pressured to move or shut down or threatened with eminent domain. I regret most that we will be unable to have a debate on these issues in our community.
Wrapping up and moving ahead. I still believe in the democratic process and will continue to fight for those whose voices are ignored. Although we do not expect to have any excess funds, if there are a few hundred dollars available when we shut down our campaign committee, we will either donate that money to a local charity or to a local political campaign.
See below some of the ways you can stay involved.
Warmest and Best Wishes,

Christopher Persons

This group has been fighting against the militarization of our public schools. Chicago has more military academies than any City in the country while maintaining some of the worst test scores.
