Our Major Issues

Although a community as complex and diverse as ours is not easily defined, I believe there are three major areas of significant concern that must be addressed in the context of local leadership as well as legislative leadership in the Council Chambers. These issues are education, quality of life and good governance.

Education:
We need a plan for our local schools that builds on the richness of our diversity and stands upon our local assets while seeking the highest quality leaders in education. We need an alderman who can be our school's proudest advocate.

Quality of Life:
Quality of life in our community stems from the many facets of our community that make it livable: safety, cleanliness, good schools, good shopping and commercial areas, good housing stock, good transportation, access to the lake and parks, and the unique character of our community that is based on the people who live here.

Good Governance:
Good governance is an issue that is important both at the ward and city levels. At the city level, corruption and patronage hiring continue to damage the quality of the local government. We need a city government that is free of self dealing and a city council that is willing to fight for reform.
